Petrol station hit-and-run in Barnsley caught on CCTV
CCTV footage shows the moment he hits the female cashier as she tries to stop him
A female petrol station cashier who tried to stop a petrol thief in Barnsley from leaving the forecourt, was run into by the man and thrown over the bonnet of his vehicle. She was attempting to stop the man from stealing £120 worth of fuel.
After the incident, Michelle Carr, who works as a cashier at the Jet petrol station on Park Road, in Barnsley, said she will carry on trying to stop shoplifters.
Ms Carr was hit by the car as she stood in front of it trying to stop them from driving off without paying. She was thrown onto the bonnet of his car in the hit-and-run and was left with bruising to her back, leg and shoulder.
CCTV cameras at the petrol station captured footage of a man filling up an oil drum at the station before driving away.
Ms Carr, aged 46, said she was left shocked by the hit-and-run incident and felt “lucky” to be alive.
She said that she went out to tackle him and asked him what he was doing. Ms Carr said that everything happened so quickly and thought that the driver would have reversed and drove around her, so was left shocked when he drove straight at her instead.
Ms Carr said that she has worked in shops since she was 16-years-old and is always the one who tackles the shoplifters and will continue to do so but she wouldn’t try stopping a car again.
The incident is being investigated by South Yorkshire Police. The hit-and-run happened at around 1.00pm on Sunday, December 4 at the Jet Petrol Station on Park Road.
