Three years in jail for Sheffield burglar caught out by CCTV

Caught on CCTV cameras using stolen bank cards and recognised by local officers

A burglar from Sheffield who was caught out by CCTV cameras using stolen bank cards, has been given a three year jail sentence at Sheffield Crown Court, after pleading guilty to a number of offences.

Thirty-two-year-old Zachariah Lister, from Wybourn, pleaded guilty to fraud, theft, burglary and to driving whilst disqualified.

The court also disqualified Lister from driving for two years.

In court, it was heard how Lister had broken into a house on Ridgeway Drive, Gleadless, in the night, whilst everyone in the property was in bed. The break-in occurred on July 17 last year.

Lister stole a number of items from the property including bank cards and the keys to the homeowner’s Skoda Fabia, which he used to drive away.

The homeowner’s car was found abandoned and burnt out on Archdale Close, in the Norfolk Park area, a few weeks later.

Lister then used the stolen bank cards the next morning to withdraw amounts of cash.

Local police officers identified Lister, after looking at CCTV footage from the area where he used the stolen bank cards.

Lister was subsequently arrested and held in custody.

PC Theo Crane, from Sheffield’s Performance Crime, said: “Lister has admitted his crimes before the court and is now behind bars.”

PC Crane added that burglary was a truly horrible and intrusive crime that has a lasting impact on victim’s but hopes that the community feels somewhat reassured that this type of criminal activity won’t be tolerated in Sheffield. Everything will be done to make sure these type of offenders are caught and brought to justice.
