Volunteers in Sheffield trying to raise money for CCTV cameras

Graves Park Animal Farm has suffered from a number of break-ins recently – CCTV cameras urgently needed

A group of volunteers in Sheffield are trying to raise money for CCTV cameras for a local attraction, after they’ve been broken into on numerous occasions over the last few years.

Graves Park Animal Farm was targeted once more in December last year by criminals. They ransacked the farm shop, leaving items sold in their strewn all over the floor and cruelly turned off an incubator, which left hundreds of unborn chicks dead.

The criminals also threw one of the farm’s two giant rabbits into the pig pen. The other rabbit managed to hide itself away.

Staff members and volunteers at the farm, who give up a lot of their spare time to help out, have had enough of these criminals so have decided it’s time to take action. They’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to try and raise money for more security measures around the farm, including CCTV cameras.

One of the volunteers, Diana Stimely, said that the break-ins had made visiting the farm at the moment, a sad experience rather than a happy one.

The police have told staff members and volunteers that new doors and windows, security lighting and CCTV cameras at the farm would help to protect the farm and keep it safe from vandals and criminals.

Volunteers and staff would like to raise £1,000 to help towards the cost of new security measures at the farm but are hoping to reach a much higher figure of around £3,000.
