CCTV images released of man wanted in connection to house burglary in Sheffield

Burglar stole car and bank cards from the Sheffield property – CCTV images released

Police in South Yorkshire have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a burglary at a house in Sheffield.

The property on Beaver Drive, Woodhouse, was broken into last year, on Tuesday, October 25, sometime between 1am and 4.15am.

The thieves stole banks cards from the property and took a car which was parked outside.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said that officers are continuing with their investigation into the break-in and theft and are still following up on different lines of enquiry.

Officers would like to trace the man seen in the CCTV image, as he might have useful information about the break-in.

The police are hoping that by releasing CCTV images of the man, a member of public might recognise him and get in contact.

They are urging anyone with information about the residential break-in and robbery to contact them and anyone who might recognise the man from the CCTV image, is asked to come forward and call the police on 101, quoting Incident Number 103, of 25 October 2016.

Three years in jail for Sheffield burglar caught out by CCTV

Caught on CCTV cameras using stolen bank cards and recognised by local officers

A burglar from Sheffield who was caught out by CCTV cameras using stolen bank cards, has been given a three year jail sentence at Sheffield Crown Court, after pleading guilty to a number of offences.

Thirty-two-year-old Zachariah Lister, from Wybourn, pleaded guilty to fraud, theft, burglary and to driving whilst disqualified.

The court also disqualified Lister from driving for two years.

In court, it was heard how Lister had broken into a house on Ridgeway Drive, Gleadless, in the night, whilst everyone in the property was in bed. The break-in occurred on July 17 last year.

Lister stole a number of items from the property including bank cards and the keys to the homeowner’s Skoda Fabia, which he used to drive away.

The homeowner’s car was found abandoned and burnt out on Archdale Close, in the Norfolk Park area, a few weeks later.

Lister then used the stolen bank cards the next morning to withdraw amounts of cash.

Local police officers identified Lister, after looking at CCTV footage from the area where he used the stolen bank cards.

Lister was subsequently arrested and held in custody.

PC Theo Crane, from Sheffield’s Performance Crime, said: “Lister has admitted his crimes before the court and is now behind bars.”

PC Crane added that burglary was a truly horrible and intrusive crime that has a lasting impact on victim’s but hopes that the community feels somewhat reassured that this type of criminal activity won’t be tolerated in Sheffield. Everything will be done to make sure these type of offenders are caught and brought to justice.

CCTV requested by residents on Sheffield street targeted by criminals

Residents want CCTV installed after 53 crimes on the street in 18 months

Residents living on a street in Sheffield are asking for CCTV to be installed, after 53 crimes on their street have occurred over the past 18 months.

An online petition has been signed by 26 people, insisting that more crime prevention measures should be introduced on Cross Bedford Street, Upperthorpe, following the number of crimes committed on the street.

According to police crime statistics, residents claim there’s been a total of 53 crimes committed around the area since the summer of 2015, including items being stolen from vehicles, plus a number of cars have also been taken.

The residents are insisting that CCTV cameras should be installed on the street, along with new brighter LED lighting to help deter thieves.

The petition was started by Tabitha Omezia, who said that the number of crimes had left many residents out of pocket.

She also went on to say that many of the residents park their cars on the street and a number have had their vehicles stolen, which causes huge stress and takes people’s time and the police’s time, not to mention the cost of having to deal with a stolen vehicle.

Tabitha and the other residents who have signed the petition, believe that by having CCTV in operation, with signs up to warn people, plus brighter street lights, the neighbourhood would be safer for everyone and the CCTV cameras will help to deter criminals.

The online petition is open to residents to sign until March 23. The petition will then be passed on to councillors to be reviewed at their next meeting.

Sheffield schoolgirl spits in man’s face after being grabbed

CCTV being reviwed after the incident involving a 14-year-old girl

Police are investigating an incident in which a 14-year-old schoolgirl had to spit in a man’s face, after he had jumped out of his car and grabbed her in the street. CCTV footage is now being reviewed by the police as part of their investigation.

The incident happened on Monday, January 16, at around 4.30pm.

The man was driving a red coloured car, which had distinctive gold-rimmed alloy wheels and tinted windows.

The schoolgirl was walking along Fulmere Crescent, Parson Cross, in Sheffield, when a man pulled up beside her and told her to get in his car.

When she said “No”, the man got out of his vehicle and shouted at the 14-year-old, to which she then started to run away. The man chased after the young schoolgirl and grabbed hold of her on Knutton Crescent.

The brave teenager spat in his face, which made him run back to his vehicle.

The 14-year-old girl’s Mum posted on Facebook, to warn other young girls and parents to stay alert and safe after what had happened.

The girl’s Mum also mentioned the fact that her daughter assumed the man would have driven away after spitting in his face but when she was running home, the teenager saw the man sitting watching her from the end of Fulmere Crescent.

CCTV footage from the area is now being reviewed by the police.

The man has been described as being in his late 20s to early 30s, with a tanned complexion, around 5ft 10ins tall, medium build with a designer stubble beard. He’s believed to have bushy eyebrows, dark blue eyes and had a brace. He may have been wearing a grey hooded top.

Detectives investigating the incident are now urging anyone with information to call the police on 101.

Volunteers in Sheffield trying to raise money for CCTV cameras

Graves Park Animal Farm has suffered from a number of break-ins recently – CCTV cameras urgently needed

A group of volunteers in Sheffield are trying to raise money for CCTV cameras for a local attraction, after they’ve been broken into on numerous occasions over the last few years.

Graves Park Animal Farm was targeted once more in December last year by criminals. They ransacked the farm shop, leaving items sold in their strewn all over the floor and cruelly turned off an incubator, which left hundreds of unborn chicks dead.

The criminals also threw one of the farm’s two giant rabbits into the pig pen. The other rabbit managed to hide itself away.

Staff members and volunteers at the farm, who give up a lot of their spare time to help out, have had enough of these criminals so have decided it’s time to take action. They’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to try and raise money for more security measures around the farm, including CCTV cameras.

One of the volunteers, Diana Stimely, said that the break-ins had made visiting the farm at the moment, a sad experience rather than a happy one.

The police have told staff members and volunteers that new doors and windows, security lighting and CCTV cameras at the farm would help to protect the farm and keep it safe from vandals and criminals.

Volunteers and staff would like to raise £1,000 to help towards the cost of new security measures at the farm but are hoping to reach a much higher figure of around £3,000.

CCTV installed at Sheffield pensioner’s home after being scammed by rogue builders

The installation of CCTV cameras comes after the pensioner was ripped-off to the tune of £30,000

A pensioner in Sheffield has been ripped-off by “despicable” rogue traders, who took the 84-year-old for £30,000 – CCTV cameras have now been installed at the victim’s home.

The elderly man, from Ecclesall, was so scared of being a burden to his family, that he kept the scam to himself.

The men responsible have never been caught and are still out there.

Diane Scarr, the victim’s niece is warning others, particularly the elderly, to stay vigilant and keep safe in their home.

The pensioner opened his door to a stranger who said his property needed some repair work doing to it. He agreed to only having a bit of work done to the brickwork and driveway. The rogue builders then demanded £4,000 cash from him.

He withdrew money from one bank account and then went into Sheffield city centre to take the rest out but had a fall and was taken to hospital.

It was only at this point his family found out what had been happening.

When they checked his bank statements, the family discovered that the scam had been going on for five to six years.

Numerous substandard jobs had been carried out on the victim’s home over this period and in total, the pensioner had paid the rogue builders £30,000 in cash.

The pensioners bank did become suspicious, as he would turn up at the bank with someone else. They gave the 84-year-old leaflets about fraud but he was so scared he continued to pay the conmen.

The family reported the whole scam to Trading Standards, who spoke with him and put safety measures in place at the pensioners home, including CCTV cameras.

Sheffield police release CCTV images following assault

CCTV image released of woman suspected of assaulting two young women in a takeaway

South Yorkshire Police have been analysing CCTV footage following an assault in Sheffield and have now released security images to the public in an effort to catch the perpetrator.

The incident took place in a takeaway shop on Sunday, October 30 at approximately 1:50am. Sisters Lydia and Isabel Smith, aged 21 and 18 respectively, were out with a mutual friend in Sheffield city centre when they decided to visit Aslan’s takeaway, in West Street, to get some food before making their way home.

CCTV released following Sheffield takeaway assault

Police want to trace this woman in connection with the assault

Speaking to The Star, Isabel told how she asked a woman already sitting down at a table if her party could sit there too, as there was limited seating. The woman commented on her politeness and nothing more was said until Lydia brought their food over and put it on the table.

The woman picked up the victims’ food and put it on the floor. Lydia put it back on the table but the woman did the same again, following which she unexpectedly attacked the shocked sisters. The woman pulled at the young women’s hair so hard, that clumps were pulled out, leaving Lydia with a small bald patch.

When takeaway staff intervened to stop the assault, the perpetrator and her friends fled the scene.

The sisters, from Essex, were visiting the Sheffield area as Lydia was considering attending Sheffield University. However, the distressing incident has left them feeling negatively towards Sheffield and no longer safe in the city on a night out.

South Yorkshire Police have analysed CCTV footage from the takeaway and have released a security image of a woman they would like to trace in connection with the incident. The suspect is described as white with short, brown hair. She was wearing a purple-coloured dress on the night of the assault.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on on 101 quoting incident number 227 of 30 October 2016.

CCTV check after Coventry City v Sheffield United pitch invasion

CCTV footage could help identify those who ‘stepped over the line’

An investigation has been launched by West Midlands Police following a pitch invasion during the match on Thursday, December 15 against Coventry City and Sheffield United. CCTV footage is now being looked at in the hope of identifying the Coventry City fans who decided to run on the pitch.

If caught, those responsible, of which there was about 100 fans, could face police action.

The 100 Coventry City fans ran onto the Ricoh Arena pitch as the League One match was still in play, in protest against their club’s management.

It’s an unlawful act to run onto a pitch whilst the game is still in play and if caught, fans could face a hefty fine and banned from future football matches.

West Midlands Police are working with the club to help catch the fans responsible and the appropriate action will be taken.

CCTV footage has come to light from the match showing a Coventry City supporter punching a Sheffield United fan in the stands. No-one has yet been arrested as a result.

The pitch invasion happened in the last ten minutes and is now being investigated. As of yet, no one has been arrested in connection with this incident but CCTV footage will be reviewed as part of the investigation.

“The encroachment of the pitch by Coventry City supporters was a disappointing end to an otherwise exciting and trouble free game,” said Chief Inspector Nick Rowe, Head of the West Midlands Police Football Unit.

The incident is also being investigated by the FA, who are waiting for a report from the referee David Webb before appropriate action is taken, which could mean points deducted or a fine.

CCTV evidence helps send Doncaster house burglar to jail

The South Yorkshire home was ransacked but CCTV footage placed the man at the scene

CCTV evidence has helped send a burglar to jail after being found guilty of ransacking a house in Doncaster.

The man, named as Shane Christopher Walker, has been jailed for just shy of three years for breaking into the property with the intent of stealing items for his own gain.

The 29-year-old broke into the property on Windmill Avenue, Conisbrough, in early 2016. He gained entry to the house via the back by smashing the patio doors in.

A member of the public who became suspicious of the man rang South Yorkshire Police to inform them. The police arrived at the premises and two men escaped from the house through a downstairs window and fled the scene.

The police did find a number of electrical goods piled up at the property waiting to be stolen.

Forensic and CCTV evidence helped connect Walker, of no fixed abode, to the scene of the crime. At a hearing held at Sheffield Crown Court, Walker pleaded guilty to burglary. He was handed a jail sentence of 32 months.

A burglary at your property can leave you feeling scared and vulnerable in your own home. CCTV can play a huge role in finding and convicting a suspect, as it showed in this case when the man responsible owned up and received a jail term for his crime.

“He has accepted responsibility for his crime and is now behind bars,” said PC Katie Gannon.

Petrol station hit-and-run in Barnsley caught on CCTV

CCTV footage shows the moment he hits the female cashier as she tries to stop him

A female petrol station cashier who tried to stop a petrol thief in Barnsley from leaving the forecourt, was run into by the man and thrown over the bonnet of his vehicle. She was attempting to stop the man from stealing £120 worth of fuel.

After the incident, Michelle Carr, who works as a cashier at the Jet petrol station on Park Road, in Barnsley, said she will carry on trying to stop shoplifters.

Ms Carr was hit by the car as she stood in front of it trying to stop them from driving off without paying. She was thrown onto the bonnet of his car in the hit-and-run and was left with bruising to her back, leg and shoulder.

CCTV cameras at the petrol station captured footage of a man filling up an oil drum at the station before driving away.

Ms Carr, aged 46, said she was left shocked by the hit-and-run incident and felt “lucky” to be alive.

She said that she went out to tackle him and asked him what he was doing. Ms Carr said that everything happened so quickly and thought that the driver would have reversed and drove around her, so was left shocked when he drove straight at her instead.

Ms Carr said that she has worked in shops since she was 16-years-old and is always the one who tackles the shoplifters and will continue to do so but she wouldn’t try stopping a car again.

The incident is being investigated by South Yorkshire Police. The hit-and-run happened at around 1.00pm on Sunday, December 4 at the Jet Petrol Station on Park Road.
